Mission

The Sustainable Norcross Commission is a seven-member citizen panel appointed by the City Council. Our purpose is to educate the citizens and advise the mayor and council regarding sustainability and environmental matters through development of a measured sustainable city plan and regular communication.

What We Do as a Sustainability Commission:
Sustainability refers to "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."*

Our initiative focuses on the areas of:

  • Green building
  • Energy conservation
  • Water conservation
  • Trees and green space
  • Transportation and air quality
  • Recycling and waste reduction
  • Land use
  • Education
  • Volunteerism

The commission assists the City in certification of the Green Communities Certification issued by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) as described on the ARC website and further described on the City of Norcross Certification.
