The Discovery Garden Park will soon be proud stewards of a Little Free Library built by one industrious Girl Scout working toward earning her Gold Award.

Do you know about the Little Free Library? It’s all about the books…and in our case, seeds.

“Take a book, return a book”—that’s the Little Free Library motto. The first one was built in 2009 by Todd Bol in Wisconsin. His idea caught on quickly. As of June 2016, there are over 40,000 registered around the world. What a great way to promote literacy and reading.

Now for the seeds. Ours will not only be a book library, but a seed library. There will be a box that will serve as a seed exchange—a way to share seeds with neighbors. Visitors can place seed packets to share or take seeds that have been donated.

The library will be open when the Discovery Garden Park opens in a couple of months.

Stay tuned and happy reading.
